All internships require students to have working papers.

It is essential that all students have these documents on hand well ahead of internship deadlines. 

1. Working papers:  
   1. Working papers are the legal document that proves to the state:
      1. the child’s age, 
      2. the consent of a parent or guardian, and 
      3. the approval of a physician to be physically fit enough for employment.
   2. Working papers are issued to minors 14 to 17 years old.  
   3. Working papers for 14 to 15-year-olds are blue and for 16 to 17 year olds are green. 
   4. Older children are eligible to work in places and with equipment that younger children are not. When a child reaches the age of 16 they must apply for a new working paper card.
   5. Typically, students will receive this form either from their CTE teacher or from the guidance office in room 211 to be completed by their parent or guardian and a physician
   6. A Physical Fitness Certificate, must be filled out by a physician proving that the child has had a physical examination in the last year.  
      1. This certificate does not require a new physical examination as long as the child has been seen within the last year
      2. It can also be filled out simply by taking the form into the doctor’s office without an appointment
      3. Often, the school will schedule a doctor to come in to the building to give physical examinations on site and provide the child with the document
   7. Once both forms have been completed, it must be returned to the school.  
   8. Note that a student’s New York Harbor School ID card serves as proof of identification for this form.
